HEALTHY HOME MADE HORSE TREATS ~~~~~~~~~~~~ COOKED OR BAKED ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Horse Cookies (Carrot, Apple, Oatmeal , bran, molasses) Ingredients: 1 carrot (grated) 1/2 apple (grated) 1/2 cup of oatmeal 1/2 cup dry bran 1/4 cup corn oil 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup wheat flour 2 tablespoons molasses 2 tablespoons brown sugar Instructions: Mix all ingredients together, Place small circles on a baking paper. Bake for 20 mins at 190 C until crisp. Horse Cookies (Oats, carrots, molasses) Ingredients: 1 cup uncooked oats 1 cup flour 1 cup shredded carrots 1 tsp.salt 1 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 1/4 cup water 1/4 cup molasses Directions: Mix ingredients together as listed. Make little balls and place on baking paper. Bake at 190 C for 15 minutes or until golden brown in color. Horse Cookies (Sweet Feed, bran, flax, molasses, Carrot, Apple sauce) Ingredients: 1 cup sweet feed 2 cups bran 1 cup flax seed 4 large carrots, shredded 1 cup molasses 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 cup apple sauce Directions: Mix molasses, brown sugar, carrots and applesauce in one bowl. In another mix the dry ingredients. combine both mixtures until enough molasses to form a thick dough. Make little balls and place on baking paper, flatten slightly. Bake at 160 C for about 1 hour, flip and bake for an additional 45 minutes, until they are dried out. Horse Cookies (bran, carrots, apples, cooking oats, eggs) Ingredients: 1 cup margarine 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup bran 1 cup diced carrots 1 cup diced apples 1 tsp. baking soda 2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats 2 eggs Directions: Cream margarine and sugar then beat in eggs. Combine flour, bran and baking soda, and blend into creamed mixture. Stir in oats, carrots, and apples. Drop spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets and bake at 190 C for 10-12 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove and cool. Makes about 4 dozen Horse Cookies (oats, bran, molasses, carrots, alfalfa) Ingredients: 4 cups (horse) oats 1 cup bran 1 cup flour 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup molasses 1 stick of butter 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 carrots, grated 3 lg Alfalfa cubes, crushed Directions: Mix 2 cups oats and all dry ingredients, including carrots and alfalfa. Mix in all liquid ingredients. Stir in the rest of the oats. Put small balls onto the greased baking sheet and flatten. Cook for 20 minutes, at 170 C makes ABOUT 6 batches. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHILLED OR SET ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Horse Cookies (apple, carrot, molasses, oats) Ingredients: 5 apples 5 carrots 1 cup molasses 1 cup sweet feed 1 cup rolled oats 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp corn oil vitamin supplement (optional) Instructions: Slice or grate carrots and apples. Mix all ingredients and put into cookie portions. Keep refrigerated until served. Horse Cookies (apple, carrot, oats, sweet feed, molasses) Ingredients: 6 apples, quartered 8 carrots, cut in 3 inch pieces 2 cups quaker oats 1 cup sweet feed Molasses Directions: Mix all ingredients together and put in enough molasses to make it all stick Place in Biscuit size portions, Chill over-night and serve. Horse Cookies (oats, bran, apple, molasses) Ingredients: 4 cups oats 3 cups bran 3 Uva Ursi Leaves, (available at health food stores) at least 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 carrots, sliced 1 cup brown sugar 1 apple, quartered Hot Water and Molasses Directions: Mix all feeds in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, beat eggs well, add them to the feed, and mix well. Dissolve the molasses in hot water and add to the feed mixture until sticky and firm. Mold and shape the feed mix into Cookies, and set in fridge. Apple Treats Ingredients: 2 apples 1/4 cup molasses 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup of uncooked oats Directions: Cut apples into quarters. Place in bowl and drizzle molasses over apples, Stir to coat evenly. Put the oats and salt into a large bag and shake well. Put the molasses-covered apple pieces into the baggie and shake well. Leave in baggie, tie with twist tie and refrigerate until use. Carrot Treats Ingredients: About 5 carrots Molasses Horse oats (rolled or crimped) Directions: Shred or cut up carrots. Add a few spoonfuls of molasses. Stir in a cup or so of oats. Chill for at least half and hour. This serves three horses. Horse Birthday cake (oats, molasses, carrot, apple) Ingredients: 4 cups of sweet feed 1 cup of molasses 2 carrots cut into carrot sticks 1 apple cut into slices Directions: Mix the honey/molasses and sweet feed or oats together in a big bowl. When fully mixed, place the mixture in the shape of a birthday cake. You the carrots as candles and the apples as decorations. Set in Fridge until hardens. Bran Mash Ingredients: 4 cups sweet feed 6 cups bran 1 cup molasses Hot water Directions: Mix sweet feed, bran and molasses together. Add hot water until to mix thoroughly. Let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Horse Treat (Oatmeal, sweet feed, apple sause, molasses) Ingredients: 1 packet of Quaker oatmeal (dry) 1 handful of sweet feed 2 spoonfuls applesauce 1 spoonful honey or molasses 4 sugar cubes a pinch of brown sugar 1/2 cup water Directions: Mix the oatmeal with the water. Add sweet feed and apple sauce. Mix together. Add the brown sugar and honey or molasses. Mix again, then place sugar cubes on top. This serves one horse. |
